NFL DFS, Preseason Week 1: Best DraftKings, FanDuel daily Fantasy football picks for Friday, August 13

Week 1 of the 2021 NFL preseason continues on Friday with three games, as the Titans take on the Falcons, the Bills battle the Lions and the Cowboys go head-to-head with the Cardinals. Dallas is a week further into its preseason, so you may see a bit more of their starters, but NFL daily Fantasy players should still be focusing on the back half of rosters. We know Dak Prescott won’t be playing as he’s scheduled to have another MRI on his injured throwing shoulder, but does that mean you should be targeting Garrett Gilbert, Ben DiNucci or Cooper Rush for your NFL DFS lineups?

Meanwhile, the Falcons don’t have a lot of experience at wide receiver behind Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage and those battling for roster spots could be a compelling option in a pass-happy offense. But which Falcons receivers will see the most playing time on Friday, and who else should you be targeting in the NFL DFS player pool? Before locking in any 2021 NFL Preseason Week 1 DFS picks for Friday, be sure to check out the NFL DFS advice, player rankings, stacks and top daily Fantasy football picks from SportsLine’s Scott Engel

For the 2021 NFL Hall of Fame Game, Engel had Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins as one of his top picks. The result: Haskins went 8-for-13 for 54 yards, receiving the most playing time out of Pittsburgh’s quarterbacks. He outplayed starter Mason Rudolph, who committed a turnover, and anybody who had Haskins in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable day.

Now, Engel has turned his attention to Week 1 of the 2021 NFL Preseason and locked in his top daily Fantasy football picks for Friday. You can only see them by heading to SportsLine.

Top Friday NFL DFS picks for Preseason Week 1

For 2021 NFL Preseason Week 1 on Friday, Engel is high on Cardinals wide receiver KeeSean Johnson. The former sixth-round pick out of Fresno State made the active roster as a rookie and has 36 catches for 360 yards and a touchdown in 18 games over the last two seasons.

Now the third-year pro is earning more trust within the Cardinals’ offense and he’s been taking advantage of increased practice reps in the last week with Arizona battling injuries and COVID-19 protocols that have thinned its wide receiver depth. Johnson figures to see a lot of reps against the Cowboys on Friday night and Kliff Kingsbury’s system makes it highly likely that he sees at least a handful of targets to help earn his place on the 53-man roster.

Part of his optimal NFL DFS strategy also includes rostering Falcons running back Caleb Huntley. The undrafted free agent out of Ball State is a well-built (5-foot-10 and 229 pounds) runner who took on a heavy workload in college, piling up 576 carries in just 33 games with the Cardinals.

Huntley is a long shot to make the roster, but he could very easily earn himself a practice squad opportunity and he’s a great candidate for a healthy dose of carries on Friday night in Atlanta’s first preseason game. He thrives in a zone-blocking scheme and he runs authoritatively, which makes him ideal for helping move the game along in the second half.

How to set Friday NFL DFS lineups for Preseason Week 1

Engel is also targeting a player who could go off for massive numbers on Friday because of a dream matchup. This pick could be the difference between winning your tournaments and cash games or going home with nothing. You can only see who it is here.
